Inflammatory Pseudotumor of Mediastinum Treated with Tomotherapy and Monitored with FDG-PET/CT: Case Report and Literature Review

2010

Mediastinal inflammatory pseudotumor is a rare disease with reactive pseudoneoplastic features and a proven capacity for local invasion. The radiographic appearance of inflammatory pseudotumor is quite non-specific and the definitive diagnosis is based on the histological evaluation of tissue specimens. Resection of the lesion is the treatment of choice. However, nonsurgical treatments such as radiotherapy and steroids have been employed in the setting of incomplete surgical resection, tumor recurrence, and patients being unfit for surgery. The case described here is being reported because of the rare mediastinal location and atypical treatment approach including salvage irradiation and mon…

1,5-Disubstituted 1,2,3-Triazoles as Amide Bond Isosteres Yield Novel Tumor-Targeting Minigastrin Analogs.

2021

[Image: see text] 1,5-Disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles (1,5-Tz) are considered bioisosteres of cis-amide bonds. However, their use for enhancing the pharmacological properties of peptides or proteins is not yet well established. Aiming to illustrate their utility, we chose the peptide conjugate [Nle(15)]MG11 (DOTA-dGlu-Ala-Tyr-Gly-Trp-Nle-Asp-Phe-NH(2)) as a model compound since it is known that the cholecystokinin-2 receptor (CCK2R) is able to accommodate turn conformations. Analogs of [Nle(15)]MG11 incorporating 1,5-Tz in the backbone were synthesized and radiolabeled with lutetium-177, and their pharmacological properties (cell internalization, receptor binding affinity and specificity, pla…

Gallium-68 and scandium-44 labelled radiotracers based on curcumin structure linked to bifunctional chelators: Synthesis and characterization of pote…

2019

Abstract Curcumin metal complexes showed widespread applications in medicine and can be exploited as a lead structure for developing new tracers for nuclear medicine application. Herein, the synthesis, chemical characterization and radiolabelling with gallium-68 and scandium-44 of two new targeting vectors based on curcumin scaffolds and linked to the chelators 1,4,7-triazacyclononane,1-glutaric acid-4,7-acetic acid (NODAGA) and 1,4-bis(carboxymethyl)-6-[bis(carboxymethyl)]amino-6-methylperhydro-1,4-diazepine (AAZTA) are reported. Synthesis of the precursors could be achieved with a 13% and 11% yield and radiolabelling generally afforded rapid incorporation under mild conditions (>95%). Sta…

Ileal Melanoma, A Rare Cause of Small Bowel Obstruction: Report of a Case, and Short Literature Review.

2020

Background: Malignant melanoma frequently spreads to the gastrointestinal tract, with 60% of patients with advanced metastatic disease showing digestive involvement; however, primary MM of the small intestine is a controversial diagnosis. In fact, whether these lesions arise as true small bowel primary neoplasms or represent metastases from unidentified cutaneous melanomas remains debatable. The most common complications are intestinal obstruction, massive gastrointestinal bleeding, and perforation. Objective & Methods: We report a case of a 64-year-old patient, with an unremarkable medical history, in which a late diagnosis of primary ileal malignant melanoma in the setting of an emer…

Minimally invasive secondary cytoreduction plus HIPEC for recurrent ovarian cancer: a case series.

2014

Objective To analyze the feasibility of laparoscopic/robotic secondary cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal intra-operative chemotherapy (SCS + HIPEC) in a retrospective series of isolated platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. Methods We retrospectively evaluated a consecutive series of ovarian cancer patients with isolated platinum sensitive relapse. Isolated relapse was defined as the presence of a single nodule, in a single anatomic site. In all cases the presence of isolated relapse was assessed at pre-operative FDG-PET/CT scan, and confirmed with staging laparoscopy performed immediately before SCS + HIPEC. Results 84 women with platinum sensitive relapse recei…

Positron emission tomography and neoadjuvant therapy of breast cancer

2011

The increasing use of neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer has led to the development of early surrogate markers of response. Positron emission tomography (PET) allows noninvasive study of fundamental biologic processes in the tumor; furthermore, PET provides various markers to assess tumor response early in the course of therapy. Numerous studies have shown that changes in tumor glucose metabolism during therapy are significantly correlated with final response and patient outcome. Moreover, new PET tracers that are currently being developed or under evaluation, providing specific information on tumor characteristics or receptor expression, will assist the development of new targeted antic…
